Ingram's Water & Air – Comfortable HVAC Solutions
It don't seem like we hear a lot of good news these days, well here's a bit of good news for home owners from Ingram's Water & Air.
For home owners who are looking to save some money on their heating and cooling cost, why not try our geothermal heat pump and receive a tax break if you qualify. Thanks to the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008 also known as (H.R.1424), home owners who install a geothermal heat pump after December, 31 2007 are eligible for a one time tax credit of 30% of the total price of installing a ground loop or ground water geothermal heat pump. The maximum credit amount for a single home is $2000. Homes must also meet Energy Star requirements to be able to receive this credit. Home owners can file for this credit by filling in the Renewable Energy subsection on their tax forms.
So how does a geothermal heat pump work and what are other advantages of using this type of heating system as opposed to a more traditional means of heating and cooling? Geothermal heat pumps work off the temperature of the earth. Plastic looped pipe is buried under the ground; water flows through the buried pipe and takes the heat from the ground to the inside of your house. This is feasible because the temperature of the earth stays the same year round. Because a geothermal heat pump uses the heat off the earth it makes for a more cost effective way of heating and cooling your home. Geothermal units are said to produce 3 to 4 units of heat for every unit of energy that it uses compared to traditional systems that give a one to one ratio. Homes that use geothermal units could possibly save 30 to 70% a year on their heating and cooling cost. There is also another benefit that you get with certain geothermal units, some units provide you with free hot water. Free hot water can add an additional saving to your overall energy cost.
Geothermal heat pumps are also environmentally friendly. The EPA states that, 'geothermal units can reduce energy consumption- -and corresponding emissions' up to 44% compared to air-source heat pumps and up to 72% compared to electric resistance heating with standard air-conditioning equipment'. Being environmentally friendly is another plus for the geothermal system.
So when you start thinking about the energy saving, the environmental friendly feature and the tax credit that you could get, a geothermal heat pumps looks like quite an attractive way to heat and cool your home. It could possibly even pay for itself within five years, which is a good return on your investment.
So if you are building a house, replacing an old heating and cooling system, or just wanting to change the way that you heat and cool your home, why not let us set you up with a new geothermal heat pump? You might save yourself some money and the planet as well.
